rainy day in los angeles

after a freakishly magnificent breakfast with Miranda, I suffered a total lack of motivation today.  it'll be remedied tomorrow since I'm due to show up at 9 am at a friend's house to help with renovations (or at least renovation clean up) all day.  Should be exciting and non-brain work, which I think I could use.

Had a good if hectic week - we had a bunch of job talks in our department (luckily the next one wraps up this week).

So here's the thing.  I love my stove tea kettle. My first kettle was one of those old blue granite wear teakettles (looked exactly like this) I adored it.  I used it often, all the way through college.  It was too big, but still was a great pop of color sitting on my stove. Sadly I left too much water in it and it rusted. But I've always liked kettles with bursts of color. My next one was green. And the next one I wanted was red.

I should have taken it as a sign when I came back from a trip, my tea kettle having been dissolved by Daria while I was gone, and the two of them had gone out and chosen a WHITE kettle for me.

White, so it blended into the stove. White, the most boring color. Nothing to excite the eye.

Oh, it's not a big thing. I don't blame myself for seeing it as a sign, but seriously, someone who had lived with me for 10 years at that point, and someone who claimed to be my best friend? they should've had a fucking clue.
