people are cool, mmmmm kay?

went to the book launch party for my (former) advisor tonight and actually had lots of fun.  it was in this little garden-type spot so we were outside, but it a small space, and so it got packed with people, all intellectuals doing crazy wonderful things.  some of the grad students from our department were there, and a couple of the professors (though interestingly none of the senior people, and i'm not sure if that was deliberate or not on the part of my advisor, but she's certainly within her rights to be a little annoyed at them since she is out of a job)

anyway, had a couple of glasses of wine, great finger foods, occasionally awkward but mostly interesting conversations, met some people, and feel like i got my happy groove on.  it was one of those nights where i am reminded people are awesome, especially when it's a group that don't necessarily know each other, but who you can wander up to and say 'hi, who are you?' and get into good conversations that go from gardening to french literature to ovid to trans studies and back again.

:D  and since i was one of the people standing around at the end i got sent home with a bottle of wine.  so very, very civilized. lols.
