Fire, fear, foes! Awake!
fear: The dog tripped my mom on a walk last Friday night, and she fell and got a couple of hairline fractures in her pelvic bone. There was a bit of chaos at the beginning - she was trying to make arrangements for the dog while in stuck in the hospital the middle of the night with her body totally hurting her. We've been able to talk every day since then and she's been back at home for a day, settling in and making arrangements to handle being off her feet for the next couple of weeks entirely. Honestly, she's pretty amazing and is working her way one by one through all of the things she needs to, but I still wish I could do more than be on the phone with her.

fire: One of the apartments in my grandfather's complex got set on fire this weekend as well. Luckily he wasn't affected much (though I guess his apartment smells like smoke) and is totally safe, but it was like apocalypse weekend.

foes: speaking of that, I've been watching hurricane coverage and photos and facebook and worrying about everyone who is affected by the weather in the States. I hope y'all were/are as safe and protected and made it through ok.

awake: ok, so, ANYONE WHO HAS A DIRECT LINK TO MY ARTWORK BEWARE - AFTER 03/2013 THOSE IMAGES WILL BE GONE - Due to LJ's most recent beta-feature (a modified "friends" page that strips custom design and turns it into a bad copy of facebook/tumbler/delicious) I won't be renewing my paid account. This means I will lose my scrapbook (where I host all of my fan images). I will be looking for a new image host, but all the current links will eventually be broken on 3/2013. Sorry guys. As soon as Dreamwidth offers an image hosting option, I'll be buying that and uploading/transferring things there, to be sure, but they're a ways off (and that's ok with me, i will wait for them).

i haven't been a huge prostelizer of Dreamwidth, but I am now - please consider getting an account over there if you don't have one, and cross posting? I'll help you set it up if you want? it takes like 10 min at the most. I don't want to lose friends, but when the new design goes live I won't be checking my LJflist.

also posted to dreamwidth | you can reply here or there | um, but don't worry, i'm still an lj girl

I could host your images if you want. Not sure how best you'd want it but it would be at no cost.

thank you lady!! you are awesome to offer! i am finding out now from other people who have stopped their lj accounts that the images don't actually go down, they hang around, you just can't add new ones.

Eep, sorry your mom had to deal with all that! And glad your grandfather is okay, though yikes, that's scary as well.

Ugh, the whole LJ-change thing is stressing me out. All those pages and threads upon threads of people saying they don't want it, and it's clearly going to happen. I have a DW account, and I may begin cross-posting, but, I don't know, I feel like this is such a blow to this style of blogging and easy-collation of other blogs for the type of reading I want. I'm doubtful about how many people will switch or crosspost, or whether that can be a new forum, or if people will just be dispirited and wander permanently to tumblr or just not really post or follow anywhere. Sorry to be doom-y and gloom-y about it, but bleh.

Thanks sweetest. She's taking it day by day and I think is gonna be ok. And yeah, it's like, apocalypse in a weekend anyone?

Sadly LJ has seemed to stop responding to pages and pages of discussion - though hopefully you saw the new "clarification" post in lj_releases that explained some of the features would be modifiable? I'll probably still keep my LJ, but I just don't feel like giving them my money anymore when the changes they make (even ones i felt were due - like the overhaul of scrapbook, which was necessary! but then the resulting system just not very functional to manage the kind of stuff i want to manage - and again, more like facebook than i want. i already have a facebook - i don't want LJ to be a facebook)

You'd be surprised at how many people are on DW already, and cross posting is ridiculously easy - it literally takes about three minutes to set up....

But yeah, there is draw away from LJ to tumblr (and pinterest, and fic to A03, and back into other types of blogs, and even on facebook) anyway, and i will say fan population and interaction seems to be modifying itself (in that way that it did when things switched from stuff like yahoo groups into lj) and hasn't really seemed to find a big niche - it's more spread out than it used to be no matter what.

the good part is, i don't think fandom is ever going to die. the though part is that i do think it's going to change from the pleasurably tight coupling of personal+fic+community that lj originally helped so much to enable. and it is a sad thing. *hugs you with a big sigh*
